Dr. Leigha Jessie graduated from Lincoln Memorial University with a BS degree in Veterinary Health Science, and then went to Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine and Lincoln Memorial University School of Business where she graduated this spring with her DVM and MBA degrees. She grew up on a livestock farm in Speedwell, TN where she was raised around all kinds of animals including cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and various poultry species. She raised goats when she was in high school and has a special place in her heart for them. She has a cat named Dawnea that she has had since she was a kitten and a border collie named Elsie. She loves hiking, gardening, canning food, drawing, crocheting, and other outdoorsy or artsy activities, and she loves to travel. She has been to England, Scotland, Canada, and South Africa and would love to visit other countries someday. She is really enjoying living in Evansville and very excited to join the Village East Animal Hospital team!
Wolves are her all-time favorite animals, but horses and goats tie for second. She is crazy about goats.
She loves herbal tea, so she likes to grow lavender and peppermint to make her own.
Elsie is smart enough to open certain doors in the house and will even find the cat for her when she asks her to.
She worked with a lot of cool animals when she was in South Africa including rhinos, sable, blesbok, impala, and even a lion!
